Good Morning, Traders!…👋
U.S. stock futures held steady early Tuesday as investors digested fresh trade tensions sparked by President Trump’s latest tariff threats. The president unveiled plans for steep duties ranging from 25% to 40% on imports from 14 countries, with the measures set to take effect on August 1. The list includes key U.S. partners such as Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, South Africa, and Indonesia.
Markets came under pressure Monday after Trump shared letters on Truth Social addressed to foreign leaders, warning of the impending tariffs. He also signed an Executive Order officially delaying the return of sweeping “Liberation Day” levies from July 9 to August 1.
In response, South Korea pledged to accelerate trade talks with Washington, viewing the delay as an extension of a grace period to avoid penalties.
Beyond the trade headlines, the week is expected to be relatively quiet on the economic front. Investors are awaiting minutes from the Federal Reserve’s June meeting on Wednesday, while Delta Air Lines (DAL) is set to kick off the second-quarter earnings season on Thursday unofficially.
